How Much Will A New Website Cost?

There isn’t a one size fits all pricing structure for websites - every agency will want to make sure that their website strategy is driven by a communications plan.
Function:
That means that some agencies might have a fairly simple site, because the goal of their website is to encourage visitors to pick up the phone and call that agency!

Other agencies might have a need for more interaction, they might want visitors to do something - fill out a form, respond to a survey, post a comment, sign up for a class and so on.

So - one way to start assessing the pricing structure of your website is to consider the functions you’d like it to perform. In general - displaying information, allowing visitors to download forms and so on - that falls on the simpler side. But when you need to accept credit card payments, link to your www.salesforce.com database, encourage visitors to lobby government officials for change - then you have a site that will likely require more coding and customizations.

Form:
That’s right - if your agency has a strong desire for reviewing a lot of design compositions, you’ll have to pay a website designer for additional creative designs. Here at NPower Seattle, our scopes of work include two distinct designs - but some agencies choose to request just one, while others have asked for four, or five or six or more! So - the higher your needs for implementing design - the more your website will cost.

Architecture:
Architecture? What does that mean - we’re not building a house, are we? No, not really - but if you need to post and store a large amount of data - you’ll be well served by spending time (and money) on a careful information architecture. After all, you’ll want your visitors to be able to quickly and easily find what they are seeking - and that means that you’ll need to define and refine your site map.

Some Estimates:
One or two visual designs, a simple site map, no extra features - 40-50 hours would be about right.
Two or three visual designs, a more complicated site map, and some interactive features - 50-100 hours would be about right.
